Getting Ready!
Finally....after spending four summers down in Nicaragua we are taking our mission to the next level. What an adventure! It's hard to believe that one family vacation turned into a life's mission and soon we will be down in Popoyo full time. I miss the feel of Nicaragua. It's hard to explain if you've never been down there. But for those of us lucky enough to know Nicaragua then you know what I mean when I say it has "a feel." A slower speed, more time to be present in the moment. There is nothing like driving down a dirt road in Nicaragua, windows down weaving your way through the trees heading to the coast.
We are in the process of selling, moving or giving away all that we have accumulated in Sarasota, Florida. Now if it was just a matter of household "stuff"...no problem. But it is oh so much more. Try selling 50,000 books before you leave.
We have been blessed with a donation. More than 50,000 books! What an overwhelming and amazing gift. When we first opened the doors of the warehouse a year ago our mouths fell open. Floor to ceiling boxes in a storage unit more than 800 square feet in size. We opened a few boxes and soon realized we had everything from a brand new devotional to a family bible from 1850 with a few paperback romance novels thrown in for fun. No manifest and no idea how to sell them. So we did the only logical thing we could think to do, quickly shut the door and left.
Since then we have tried open door sales where we sold several boxes but with 1300 boxes of books a few gone isn't even noticeable. Then we found our newest bestest friend, Dan. He introduced us to the world of Amazon. But after weeks of nights of scanning and labeling and shipping we discovered that the warehouse was still full of books.
Next came eBay. Now we are rolling! Michael has it down. He can look at a book and say "Oh, Amy Carmichael" that will sell! Or Spurgeon...F.W. Boreham. When I first married Michael he only read when he wanted to go to sleep. Today he's surrounded by books. He has gone through the entire warehouse and removed books that he realizes won't sell. Now we have a solid selection....still no manifest. But we know that on average we are selling books for $15.00 a piece on eBay. The challenge we face, sell the entire warehouse so that we can fund the mission. PLEASE PRAY
When God starts stirring your heart it's impossible to say no.
